Herb Voland (October 2, 1918 in New Rochelle, New York - April 26, 1981 in Riverside, California) made a guest appearance in Season 1 of I Dream of Jeannie as Major Jamison, an officer who works at NASA Cape Kennedy with the astronauts and whose son, Custer, witnesses Jeannie performing some of her magic in the episode "Whatever Became of Baby Custer?"
Herb is perhaps best known for his role as Brigadier General Crandell Clayton on the hit CBS-TV show M*A*S*H from 1972 to 1973.
Voland started his professional acting career on the Broadway stage, but became known for portraying characters on 1960s and 1970s television that were most commonly gruff executives, huff-and-puff military brass or policemen, either in light sitcoms or crime dramas.
Voland was also the father of television actor Mark Voland.
Voland died of a stroke at his home in Riverside, CA in 1981. His son Mark Voland, followed him into the entertainment industry, acting on TV and in film in the 1980s and 1990s. Mark died of a heart attack as well, in 1995.
