Richard appeared in numerous bit part roles on film and TV in the 1950s and 1960s, which included such films as The Court Jester (1956), The Ten Commandments (1956), The Unknown Terror (1957), Blood Arrow (1958) and The Corpse Grinders (1971), and series as Playhouse 90, Rawhide, My Favorite Martian, and I Dream Of Jeannie.
Among his film roles, the most notable role is as Jerry Ellsworth, a black man who passes for white and who returns with his white wife to his home state Alabama and infiltrates a KKK group there in an attempt to avenge the death of his sister by the group in The Black Klansman, (1966).
