Vic Tayback (born January 6, 1930 – died May 25, 1990) appeared on I Dream of Jeannie as Turhan, the secretary and valet for Princess Tarji on Paukuit, whom Tony is enlisted by Dr. Bellows, by order of General Petersen to show around Cocoa Beach as an escort while she visits NASA and the area, and also whom Jeannie is supposed to kill in honoring an ancient sworn blood oath between her and the princess's family in the episode "This Is Murder" in Season 1.
Tayback appeared in dozens of films and stage productions, but the role of his career was Mel Sharples on the long-running CBS-TV series Alice, which he played from 1976 to 1985. It brought him two Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award nomination for best supporting actor.
Vic's many big screen appearances include the films Papillon, Bullitt, The Cheap Detective and Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, which was the basis for the television series Alice. After making his television debut in 1958, he appeared in scores of shows, including Star Trek, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Bonanza. Amongst his numerous voice over works, include his role as Carface in All Dogs Go To Heaven
Vic died of sudden heart attack at his home in Glendale, California at the age of sixty in 1990.
